Governors

Welcome to the Governors' section

Leverington Primary Academy is a member of The Diamond Learning Partnership Trust (DLPT): an academy trust which was set up in the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Trust is currently made up: Middlefield, Great Staughton, Kimbolton, Winhills and Round House Primary Academies in St Neots; Thomas Eaton, Glebelands, Leverington, Gorefield, Murrow and Burrowmoor Primary Academies in Fenland; Braybrook in Peterborough; Roman Way and King James' Academy in Hertfordshire. This Trust is managed by a Board of Directors and each school has a Local Governing Body.

The Board of Governors exists to:

  • Put in place the long term vision and strategic direction of the school
  • Monitor the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure that money is well spent

Our role is to ensure that Leverington Primary Academy constantly and consistently delivers on its visions and values: essentially, to ensure that every child achieves the highest possible standards through our relentless focus on high-quality teaching and learning. Further information about the school’s visions and values can be found on the website.

The board of governors also oversees admission, staff employment and buildings management.

Our Local Governing Body has members elected or appointed as governors on behalf of the Trust. They are made up of parents, staff and the local community and they serve a term of four years. Governors can be re-elected/re-appointed at the end of their term for a further four year period. The Local Governing Body meets once each term.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Meet our governors!

Our chair, Jane Goose

My name is Jane Goose and I am Chair at Leverington Primary Academy. My husband and I lived in Leverington for fourteen years until we recently down-sized and now live in Wisbech. I grew up in Tydd St. Giles and after gaining my degree at Durham University and teaching qualification at Leicester University, we later settled in the Murrow area; so I feel well qualified to be called a local!

I joined the governing body in 2016 after retiring from a lifetime as a teacher. Before starting a family, I taught at two schools in Peterborough and then after the births of our three children, I taught at Murrow, Parson Drove and finally at Elm Road Primary School in Wisbech. I held a nunber of positions of responsibility within these schools.

Joining a governing body is a way of continuing to use whatever knowledge and skills I may have in a voluntary capacity. I especially enjoy the visits into school to learn about and observe the wonderful things that the teachers are doing with your very enthusiastic children.

Community governor and Vice-Chair: Emma Booty

I joined Leverington School as a community governor in 2015 when the school became an Academy Trust, later becoming part of the Diamond Learning Trust, as it is now. I have always enjoyed my time as a governor, helping to support the Head Teacher and all the team at the school.

In my professional career, I qualified as an accountant in 2001. Following a move to Leverington in 2006, I joined a local accountancy practice where I am a senior associate. I have two children who have both attended the primary school in the village, and have many good memories of their time at the school.

Staff governor: Sarah Pooley

I am the Assistant Head Teacher at Leverington, and one of the Staff Governors. I have had over 20 years teaching experience, working mainly in Key Stage 1 and the Early Years. During this time, I have worked in schools of varying sizes and catchment areas. Part of my current role has been mentoring teachers who are new to the profession. I am also currently studying for my NPQSL and being part of the LGB has given me invaluable experience in the leadership and management of schools.

Being in a small village school, I wear many hats and lead a number of subjects. My main areas of interest and expertise are Phonics and Early Reading, and the Arts. I’m passionate about ensuring that our pupils have the opportunity to participate in a wealth of experiences during their time here at Leverington such as learning to play and instrument or watch a live theatrical performance.

As a Staff Governor, I feel privileged to be able to support our LGB with providing updates on our curriculum, pupils progress and also welcoming them in to our school. This role also allows me the opportunity to provide the LGB with the views and perspectives of staff when necessary.

Staff governor: Nicola Willett

I am Nicola, the Mental Health, Wellbeing and Pastoral Lead at Leverington Primary Academy. During the last academic year, I joined the Leverington Governing Body as a support staff governor. I have vast experience in a pastoral role having worked for 13 years in a secondary school as a Pastoral Manager.

My role is a very varied one and includes looking after the children’s wellbeing to supporting our families with any concerns they may have. I am one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads with responsibility for the safety of the children in school. Staff wellbeing is important to me in my role, and I provide a listening ear for staff as and when needed. I liaise with external agencies to ensure our families receive the support they need. I am also the Attendance Lead and work closely with senior leaders to promote the importance of excellent school attendance.

I am one of the Cambridgeshire Therapeutic Thinking trainers in school and I promote the therapeutic approach that is part of our school ethos. I am passionate about and committed to providing the highest level of support and care for the children and families in our community.

Parent governor: Howard Elvidge

I have been a Parent Governor at Leverington Primary Academy since December 2022. My wife and I have two children which attend the school and are currently in Years 1 and 4. We moved to Wisbech in 2011 and enjoy the area.

I am a Police Inspector and have worked within policing for 22 years. Prior to joining the police, I completed a management degree at university.

I hope my skills and experiences from my job can help with supporting the school, whilst ensuring the pupils receive the best education and opportunities.

Parent governor: Kimberley Holt

I am a qualified Beauty Therapist and have worked in the profession for many years, although I decided to pause my career so I could give my full care and attention into starting a family and bringing up my own children, which was very important to me. It allowed me to be fully involved in my children's early years and development and continues to allow me to take an active part in my children's education.

I am married with two children, and they both attend Leverington Primary Academy. My oldest is in Year 3 and my youngest is in Reception.

I am friendly and approachable, I love getting to know other parents and take a keen interest in school curriculum along with all other activities. I enjoy visiting the school classrooms when invited to see all the wonderful work and learning they do. It is such a joy to see how far they have all come since starting primary school and I look forward to seeing just how far they can all go.

I have a good relationship with the staff and feel like I can add value as a LGB Member.

Community governor: Rebekah Crockford

I have lived in Leverington for over 10 years and I recently became a mum which has made me more interested in supporting my local community and becoming part of a supportive and welcoming school community which hopefully my son will one day attend. I am very passionate about ensuring that all children have the best environment to achieve their full potential.

I grew up locally attending the local secondary school and went on to obtain a law degree at Northampton University. I am a qualidfied solicitor and have worked at a local law firm for 7 years.

In my spare time (which seems not too often with a 1 year old!) I like to watch movies and travel the country with our dog.
